Breathe a little easier both literally and financially by taking advantage of the Federal Government's Green Building Fund which is one of three elements of the $240 million Clean Business Australia initiative set up to assist businesses adapt for climate change.

These Climate Change Adaption Grants aim to reduce the impact of the greenhouse gas emissions of Australia's built environment by reducing the energy consumed in the operation of existing commercial office buildings.

The Climate Change Adaption Grants will provide $90 million over 4 years beginning in 2008/09, through grants ranging from $50,000 to $500,000, for up to 50% of expenses directly related to the project costs.

Funding will be awarded to eligible owners of existing commercial office buildings for retro-fitting or retro-commissioning projects.  These projects need to be directly related to reducing greenhouse gas emissions of the buildings through a reduction of the base building energy consumption, or total building energy if they are the sole occupant of the building.

Examples of eligible projects suggested by AusIndustry include the installation of monitoring equipment, building automation systems and control systems linked to optimizing the energy efficiency of the building.

AMX Australia recently became the first control systems manufacturer to become a member of the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).

AMX offers solutions that can address the growing issue of buildings being the largest single source of carbon emissions and as well as the biggest energy users.  They have released their first AMX Green Application Paper which is titled Maximising your Green Star Opportunities: AMX Smart Meter Display.   It is the first of a series of papers that will aim to show how AMX products and technologies could be utilised to assist in the attainment of the GBCA's Green Star certification.
