SMPTE11

SMPTE11 is the premier event for showcasing media and entertainment technology, and equipment in Australia. This year we were greeted with an array of new products from all of the leading suppliers. We sent both the Dans in the office to play with all these new products and report back to us the latest happenings in the industry.

Dan Baldwin:
It was very busy at SMPTE this year, there was a great crowd and all of the big players were present. Panasonic, Hitachi, Syntec, JVC, LSC, Amber Technologies are just a few of the booths that I visited –it was a very busy day!

The highlight for me was the Panasonic Pro camera range –they were fantastic, a great well-designed product! Blackmagic Designs were another standout, made locally they offer very cost effective SD and SD-HDI switches and processors. These offer a great solution for those wishing to enter the video editing area without breaking the bank.

Broadcasting equipment has previously been a very specialised and very expensive field. However this is now changing and if the products we viewed at SMPTE are an indication of things to come, these products are only going to become more accessible for anyone interested in pursuing hobbies or careers in broadcasting.
