Commercial

Operation: Built with commercial components, and robust materials designed for full 24/7 running time.

Warranty: Most commercial panels offer a 3 year warranty for use in commercial applications.

Manufacture: Commercial panels are made with robust components, some with multiple fans designed for long use and demanding environments. This also increases the life expectancy, which can compensate for initial expenditures. These units are designed specifically for signage applications, where a single image may be displayed safely for a long period of time.

Connections: Most commercial panels have provision for RS‐232, RJ45 and other connections, these can allow for control via network or other more sophisticated functions. Also covering a wider range of video inputs.

Picture Dynamics: Commercial displays produce full greyscale and good linear colour tracking from black to white showing 256 different levels of brightness.

Mounting: Most commercial panels can be used in either portrait or landscape mode. Check that the manufacturer supports this. Metal chassis often provide.

Features: Often coming standard with configuration slots for additional hardware, built in scheduling, password setting protection, and advanced configuration settings they offer a much more flexible and inclusive installation package.

Residential

Operation: Built for domestic use, operating time approx 6 hours per day maximum.

Warranty: Normally 12 months. Most do not offer any warranty if product is used in a commercial environment.

Manufacture: Domestic panels are designed for approx 6 hours use a day, with softer components and normally without heavy duty fans. This will severely shorten their lifespan when used in a 24/7 or high use environment. Burn in or image retention is also in issue in applications where a single image is displayed for long periods.

Connections: Domestic panels are not suitable for network or control functions and generally have limited video connectivity only.

Picture Dynamics: In consumer televisions the greyscale is skewed for more of the white end of the scale relative to the narrow broadcast standards that they must meet.

Mounting: Domestic panels are designed for landscape use only, pixel drop can be evident with use in portrait mode.

Features: With features more suitable for home use, these often include YouTube or photo viewing software, and tools that are not useful for the installation market.
