THE DEATH OF THE CD DRIVE?

At the recent World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) Apple announced their latest operating system –iOS7. Apple CEO Tim Cook has described the upgrade as ‘completely new but instantly familiar’ but we will have to wait until later in the year to get our hands on it. From a hardware perspective Apple also released a new range MacBook Air, powered by the latest Intel’s latest Haswell microprocessors, and a new desktop MacPro. Notably absent from these announcements were the MacBook Pro range, this has pundits claiming that Apple will be dropping this range and pushing consumers towards the MacBook Air range.

MacBook Air, iMac and MacPro all ship without a built in optical drive (there is an external option available) leaving the MacBook Pro range as the only computers in the Apple range to ship with an optical drive. If as expected Apple drop the MacBook Pro line will this increase the rapid demise of the CD?

One thing we know for sure is that Apple are good a keeping a secret, so we will have to wait to see what is in store for the MacBook Pro range.
